What's the difference between UK, Great Britain, and England?

I think I understand the gist of the difference between the terms, but it's a bit confusing.

  1. I think they're just different names...different nicknames...i don't think that they mean everything by the different names...maybe?


  2. Seb 87 and NO SURRENDER are the only people who answered correctly here.

    All the others are wrong, GB and UK are NOT the same thing.

  3. Alright, England means it's only one country apart from Scotland and Wales.

    Great Britain means three country in one network which is England, Scotland and Wales.

    UK means the name of country in the Britain.

  4. England is just one of four constituent countries of the United Kingdom, the other three being Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Great Britain is just the british mainland, the largest island in the british isles.

    So I don't understand why our national Olympic team is call TeamGB. Surely it should be TeamUK as it includes Northern Ireland!

    The United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland is the political name of our country - Similar to the United States of America etc.

    The UK is made up of the union of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. All of these countries used to be independent of each other in the past.

    Great Britain is the name of the island where England, Scotland, and Wales are located.
