Question:

What's the difference between a 'Mandate' and a 'Power of Attorney'? We are foreigners in Mexico.

We are Canadians living in Mexico and need a 'Power of Attorney' to act on our behalf in our absence. We are told that because we are foreigners, that a 'Mandate' is the appropriate legal document to use. Does anyone out there know what the difference is between the two? I've never heard the term 'Mandate' in this application....

  1. Are you referring to the Fideicomiso?

If you are stay away from the "Lawyers" and use the "Notarios"

Modify your question ,I think I can help you with this one.

Did you buy "Ejido land on the coast or within 50km of it?

There is no difference "Legally" Either way be wary of who your are  to act on your behalf

    authorizing

I knew someone that signed her house over to a lawyer and he sold it and disappeared.

DO NOT DO ANYTHING WITH A LAWYER.

Notarios are Government appointed and carry a lot more weight than here in Canada

Did you buy it a little south of Zihuatenejo?

You probably have researched "Ejido" land and know there are commitments you have to comply with or you can lose it

Its a long story and as long as you are going to live there No Problem

I read somewhere that you had to live on it or fence it off and hire someone to take care fo it in your absense

It looks like you will be fine.  Near Mazatlan--Nice climate!

If the "Minesterio de asuntos exteriores" has issued a permit to your bank then you have nothing to worry about.

I did not mean to scare you.  You could not be in better hands than with the "Fideicomiso"
