  1. The one fused to metal is stronger.

  2. A PFM (porcelain fused to metal) crown has a metal substructure that is composed of a high-noble metal such as gold or other mixtures of alloy. A porcelain crown consists of  ceramic and/or glass with no metal substructure. which is more expensive??? All porcelain crowns may be slightly more expensive. Which one is stronger?? A PFM. If the porcelain chips off the PFM, you'll see the underlying metal. However, if you chip an all porcelain crown, the integrity of the whole crown is compromised. Why? well, think of it like a crack on your windshield..it starts out like a little star and then starts getting bigger. It's a matter of cosmetic preference on what you'd prefer. I have 2 PFMs on my lower left side and you'd never know if they're all porcelain or not. hope this helps

  3. All dental porcelain is fused to a metal base.

  4. A porcelain crown is prettier, but not as strong. These are better better for front teeth because you won't see metal at the gum line if your gums recede over time. If it's fused to metal it is stronger and better for molars because of chewing. Fused to metal is cheaper in our office
