  1. Calzones are similar to stromboli, but traditionally the two are distinct dishes, as stromboli usually contains mozzarella cheese and is served with marinara sauce on the side. Moreover, stromboli is rolled to resemble a loaf, whereas a calzone is folded to resemble a semi-circle.

  2. another difference besides the answers above is that a stromboli is usually rolled jelly roll style.... while a calzone is just folded over and sealed!!!

  3. A calzone has ricotta cheese filling and sometimes ham as well.  A stromboli has mozzarella cheese with pepperoni and/or sausage, there is no ricotta filling in it.  It is kind of like a pizza taste, but less sauce.   I like the stromboli better.

  4. Stromboli is a hot rolled sandwich with the lettuce onions and tomatoes cooked right in it in the oven.   There is no limit to what fillings you have to choose from. Put your favorite Italian sausage salami etc in it and enjoy with a side of good sauce.   cal zone is a wonderful mixture of what ever you want also.  We like fresh mushroom, black olives, spinach and provolone cheese in ours with our sauce baked in semi circle pizza pockets.  mangia tutto  (eat up)

  5. Stromboli is made with Mozzarella cheese and are long, while Calzone is made of ricotta cheese and is shaped in a semi-circle
