  1. Democracy - Majority rules

    Socialist - Government RULES

  2. Apples and oranges really. Democracy is a system of government and socialism is a political philosphy. You have democratically elected socialist governments so they quite happily co-exist.

  3. There are various ideologies and political moments but the central goal of a socialist country is a system where property and wealth are controlled by a community.  Lately some Latin American countries have opted for socialism because of an "anti-imperialist" stance in order to control their own resources that have been taken over by America and other developed countries.

Developing countries such as India and China have strong socialist parties but even these are slowly evolving and when we say socialism, it no longer what it used to be.

Now Democracy is another system that vary from country to country.  Forms of government and political philosophy vary depending of what is meant by Democracy.  Freedom of speech, freedom of the press, the rule of law as it pertains to our constitution relates to America.  Other countries that are considered Democratic do not follow what America follows.  Bottom line, there are many countries who follow a variation of Democracy and Socialism and it is difficult to place a label on them.
