I'm just starting to wean my son onto solids and would like to make my own baby food.

What do I need to buy? a food prcessor or blender? whats the difference?

I dont have much money and blenders look cheaper especially those small hand held ones but can they blend carrots or potatoes if they were put in whole?

Thanks

  1. you can use both, but I would go for the blender. I raised all my kids on food I make for them at home. You just have to make sure the carrots are cut up really small because they don't blend as well.

  2. both;)

  3. i have both and the food processor is WAY better!! a blender is a pain you have to make sure not to put to much in it or it won't blend it all, etc.

a food processor does way more than a blender (depending on the type you get) can chop, puree, slice, make dough, etc. )  so you can make baby food smooth (puree) and make it chunky later if you want.  a blender only blends and that's it. you can even put raw things in a food processor, you can even chop meat in it.

my food processor is awesome, i use it all the time for everything (regular cooking).  of course i got a really good one but i have no regrets, i use it a ton!

    good luck

  4. Food processors tend to have more features and can chop food as well as puree it.

Hand held blenders will need the carrots to have been boiled and chopped first if it's to have any effect, the blender just wont be strong enough to deal with raw veg. I have a regular counter top blender but it still needs the veg to be cooked first.

  5. food processers tend to be able to handle more robust things I think. The hand held blenders are very good but most useful for small amounts of soft things. They could probably do potatoes but you only get a small container with them in which to blend.

The only advantage with a smoothie maker over a food processor is the tap on the side which allows you to empty the contents into a glass.

  6. i have a blender and it works just fine, i have used it for carrots, butternut squash and peas and no problems.

i always ct the food into chunks, and then steam it, then let it cool and put it into the blender
