What's the difference between a fraternity name and a sorority name?

how do you tell the difference without actually seeing them? is there a special order the letters have to be in?

  1. There is nothing about how letters are arranged or ordered that distinguishes fraternities from sororities.  

    So you cannot tell if an organization is one of the other merely by looking at the letters.


  2. No, there is no way to tell if a group is a fraternity or sorority simply by looking at the name.  Usually, the letters have a secret meaning known only to members.  Often it's tied to the group's purpose or motto.

  3. That's something I've never heard of before.  There's no particular order that the letters have to be in.  Fraternities and sororities pick there letters based on their principles and standards (at least my org does).  Hope that helps!
