What's the difference between a grant and a sponsorship?

we offer both at our organization but some think it's interchangeable. would like to communicate the difference.

  1. Grants are usually given because the individual has an economic need and has no academic or other stipulations on it.  (Basically they get it because they are poor and for not other reason.)

    Scholarships are usually tied to some sort of academic accomplishment that they have to earn usually, but not always... basically a scholarship is money for anything other than being poor.  

    The terminology for scholarships is usually called "Merit Based".  aka you have to have this sort of characteristic to be considered or earn this scholarship.
