  1. I believe a novel generally refers to a story book. A one with a plot and characters.

As for a book, it can be on any topic. A comic book, a history book, a science book, etc.

    P.S. Even a novel is a book.

  2. It has made the market and is well known.

  3. A novel is  a book

  4. All novels are books.

All books need not be novels.

  5. A novel is an extended fictional work in prose, usually in the form of a story ...and a book is just a bunch of written pages bounded together which might come in the form of a novel, a dictionary, an anthology etc.

  6. Novel, long work of written fiction. Most novels involve many characters and tell a complex story by placing the characters in a number of different situations.

Because novels are long—generally 200 pages or more—novelists can tell more richly detailed tales than can authors of briefer literary forms such as the short story. Many readers consider the novel the most flexible type of literature, and thus the one with the most possibilities. For example, writers can produce novels that have the tension of a drama, the scope of an epic poem, the type of commentary found in an essay, and the imagery and rhythm of a lyric poem. Over the centuries writers have continually experimented with the novel form, and it has constantly evolved in new directions.

Books may also refer to a literature work, or a main division of such a work. In library and information science, a book is called a monograph, to distinguish it from serial periodicals such as magazines, journals or newspapers. The body of all written works including books is literature.

In novels, a book may be divided into several large sections, also called books (Book 1, Book 2, Book 3, etc).

  7. A novel is a type of book - generally a fictional story of some kind.  Examples of recent novels include The Da Vinci Code, any of the Harry Potter series, and Life of Pi.

The term 'book' encompasses all types - not just novels, but biographies, self-help books, poetry books, cook books, atlases, The Bible (sometimes referred to as 'The Book,' or 'The Good Book'), and all manner of reference books (dictionaries, encyclopedias, how-to guides, tour books, etc.).

    I hope that helps!

  8. A Novel is fiction and a book is a generality of all genres.

There is also a Novela which is a short Novel etc.

  9. A novel is a specific type of book, it is a subset of the field of books.

Generally a novel is a book that follows a buildup to a climax and follows a central plot.
