  1. Well, they're almost the same thing except a psychologist is PhD certified , and goes through the same years of med school as any other physician. Unlike therapists, psychologists can prescribe medication and usually get the more serious mental cases.

Oh, and psychologists rack up the big bucks $$$ (although therapists make good money too, but it shouldn't matter if you love what you do)

Therapists have about the same job description, with the exception of prescribing medicine.

Go for what you love! If you like helping out teens, then be a teen therapist/counselor and help them get through the angst years... haha.

If you like dealing with stressed adults, go for the psychology.

It's all worth it in the end!

  2. I am afraid Madddielove is incorrect. Only psychiatrists go to Med School and psychiatrists generally focus more on diagnosis and prescribing medicine. Psychologists have a PhD degree, but most of them don't prescribe medicine and focus on various forms of talk or behavioral therapy. A therapist does not have to have a PhD. A person with a masters degree can be a therapist. However, sometimes people use the word therapist when they mean their clinical/counseling psychologist doctor.

Edit: You need can do therapy with a masters degree, but the most jobs and freedom come with getting a PhD degree. This is just my opinion, but I think most people who really want to do serious therapy or counseling get a Phd in clinical or counseling psychology.
