What's the difference between a rub down and a massage?

I think one is for healing and the other is for pleasure. What I don't understand is how a man can let another man give him a rub down (usually athletes), but will never let a man give them a massage. Isn't this sort of hypocritical?

lol to me there is also a difference rub down to me would be a more sensual and intimate form of massage. I would let almost anyone give me a massge while a rub down only my signinficant other will be able to perform this on me.
