  1. They are roughy the same thing, If you had to divide the two however, I would say that a waiter "waits on" the needs of a person/people at a restaurant etc, whereas a server actually delivers the food from kitchen to table be it carrying a plate or silver serving!

  2. Server is politically correct.  Waiter is gender specific.

  3. They are just about the same thing, a waiter would be what you call a guy that does the serving. But either way, server can be either a woman or a man that does that job. I am not sure which sounds better on a resume.

  4. I could be wrong...but, I think the only difference between a server and a waiter is the amount of money you will eventually pay for your meal. A server - somehow - suggests a higher class of eating experience, which equals more money out of your pocket. Kind of like the difference between a restaurant and a bistro. Just remember...leave a tip.

  5. No difference that I know.  I would use the word 'server' or 'food server' or 'cocktail server.'

  6. they are the same thing.  server is often used because it is unisex.  while waiter is a man and waitress is a women.

i personally think server sounds much better on a resume
