What's the difference between a slip on and a full exhaust?

Aside from price, what is the real difference between a full and a slip on exhaust? Does one sound better than the other? and is it worth the price difference?

Also can you tell me if i should dish out the extra hundred dollars for a carbon fiber exhaust rather than an aluminum or stainless steel one?

  1. On a motorcycle slip on is just the can, which slips on to the stock header pipe, full exhaust is the header and either a slip on can or a bolt on can. Other than sounding louder and shedding some weight most aftermarket pipes actually reduce power. The factory engineers that can wring out 120+ hp out of a 600 cc mill and over 160 hp out of a 1000cc are no dummies.

  2. Slip ons are mufflers, that slip on to the full exhaust. Next, No. Next, depends. Next Definetly No.

  3. Full on exhaust gives you better air flow and is not restricted, that goes the same for slip-on exhaust. The main thing with full exhaust is you will need to get a power commander and get the bike dyno, to fix the power band and fuel mixture.

As for sound maybe a little louder on full exhaust set-up. I would go for a carbon fiber exhaust for sure, they just look cooler.
