Question:

What's the difference between an arm and a tentacle?

Today I learned that an Octopus' tentacles are not tentacles at all. They're called 'arms.' Why is this distinction significant? Until now, I'd always thought the term 'arms' and 'tentacles' were interchangable.

Just curious.

  1. Tentacles are longer than arms and have suckers only at the tips.
