What's the difference between being a Patient Care Technician and a LPN?

From what I understand, nowadays PCTs are doing most of what LPNs are doing in hospitals. I heard they are going to begin cutting out the LPN phase. Is this true?

  1. LPN's are nurses, they are assigned duties with more stable and normal clients. LPN's services are not commonly used in hospitals,  however they are used quite often in Nursing homes, doctor's offices and rehab clinics. While on the other hand Patient care technicians (PCTs)  usually help  nurses and/or other supervisory personnel in providing health  care to patients at the most basic level.
