What's the difference between birch beer and root beer?

i don't like root beer, but i like birch beer. i know that birch beer tastes like rootbeer, but it's less strong. are there any main differences between them?

birch beer is made from the sassafras root.

I've never heard of Birch beer before, but right now as the sap is rising snap off a twig of Birch and fasten a bottle beneath it, chill the sap and drink it... lovely.  Make it into wine... beautiful
