What's the difference between bulkhead and partition? and also deck head and ceiling?

  1. Bulkhead is a structural member of the vessel contributing to the vessel's strength.  Partition is simply a divider of the space.  Ceiling is not a nautical term.  Without great knowledge, i would suspect Deckhead implies a portion of the over head serving dual purpose of deck above and what you see when seen from below.

A bulkhead is a partition in the hull of a boat.  Usually, bulkheads are designed to serve three functions: one, they keep water contained - so that a ruptured compartment will not flood another... and two, they serve as a structural frame to add strength and three, they are used as the primary form or frame of the hull that is the foundation for the hulls shape.

      

    A deckhead is the underside of the deck (or a deck) of a boat or ship.  It bears the same relationship to a compartment on the deck below as does the ceiling to the room of a house.
