  1. Charcoal - Charcoal is the blackish residue consisting of impure carbon obtained by removing water and other volatile constituents from animal and vegetation substances. Charcoal is usually produced by heating wood, sugar, bone char, or other substances in the absence of oxygen. The soft, brittle, lightweight, black, porous material resembles coal and is 85% to 98% carbon with the remainder consisting of volatile chemicals and ash.

Coal - Coal is a fossil fuel formed in ecosystems where plant remains were preserved by water and mud from oxidization and biodegradation, thus sequestering atmospheric carbon.

  2. Coal from the coal mine and charcoal from burnt wood.

  3. Charcoal is when we burn wood with less Oxygen supply, so that the organic matter evaporates leaving Carbon behind.

The same over a long time, somewhat modified is done on ancient forests. Forests in Carbonaceous period are buried by Geological action, subjected to intense pressure (of overlying burden) and great heat to form coal seams, at considerable depths.
