What's the difference between depression and whacked out hormones?

I think I might be depressed...I had major problems with it last year, but I thought got better. But for the past few months, I don't know if it's back, or if my hormones are just really screwed up. Is there anyway to tell? Am I overreacting?

  1. You stated that you had major issues with depression last year - was this diagnosed by a Doctor? All ages can suffer from depression and if you believe the sypmtoms have re surfaced, you do need to get advice from a Dr. In relation to thinking that your hormones are "screwed up", this is also something the Dr can advise you on. Tests are available which can read hormone levels. The Dr will then assess whether you need something to help the way you feel such as medication - or whether it may correct itself in time. Getting professional advice rather than guessing, should reduce your anguish and provide you with some confidence about what's going on with your mind and body.

  2. I feel exactly the same and I posted a question for it, too.

I really hope it's my hormones, because I really want it to go away, I know how you feel completely.

People are telling me to take antidepressants, but I know that isn't going to help the depression go away, just cover it up artificially. I wouldn't suggest that.

Depression is actually part of hormones -- I mean, it's a symptom. I don't really have an answer for this question, I'm sorry. I'm looking for one myself. But meanwhile we can just be sad together and hope it goes away really soon and stays away.  Good luck. :)

  3. try running or jogging, it helps with both

  4. most people that suffer from depression never truly recover from it.  outside of medication, exercise is a good way to deal with it. And no, you are not over reacting, depression is a serious issue.

  5. Wow, that's no way to end a good day! No, the hormones do not cause depression! You are having a roller coaster ride with self-esteem! Adolescent bodies are busy with hormonal porduction to make yourself ready for adulthood (if there is really one!) Depression is with us all the time, and is used in "checks and balances." Without these checks and balances our minds would go astray in a state of complete mania! Depression is an enemy only when it controlls our everyday living.

  6. Depression is constant-everyday for more than 2 weeks without stimulus, they say you should get it checked out. Hormonally- well if you have a reason for your hormones to be jacked up that bad-you should check with your doc to find out what's going on. It could be depression, or a greater underlying problem, if you haven't just had a baby-gotten off contraceptives-ext.

If you ever feel like hurting yourself in one way or another, (mutilation, drinking, ext), get help! Don't' wait for bloggers to tell you, we can't diagnose your problem.

  7. How old are you? That will tell the answer. The main difference is that most teens are not depressed, just have whacked out hormones. The problem is that they still go all suicidal and act depressed and try to get attention still for it, for instance, one person on my msn right now is 16, and she's really hormonal, her name right now is clearly directed toward her poor and stable boyfriend who treats her like gold, it is "I'll be gone, and you'll be happy" and every single day its some depressing screen name to try to take an emotional hit towards someone, holy c**p chill out! I feel wierd right now too, it's only lasted about a week or so, so far, but something isn't right. I'm so negative, and sad about everything, life just seems to suck, I'm a 19 year old healthy guy with lots of stuff going into college in a few weeks and I'm sad! Wtf, so it's gotta be hormones. Think about your life, and how it is, and what's affecting it, and thats usually how you can figure out if you'll need help or if it's just a stage. Just analyze your life.

  8. Men have depression and women have whacked out hormones!

  9. Horemones are a natural way of life, it happens to everyone every once in a while. Depression is more of a, not being with anyone, thinking about death, being alone. I suggest you consult your doctor or a close friend. They will most likily help you to figure out what it is.

  10. talk to yer doctor

  11. Depression results from a chemical imbalance in the brain.. it is when your brain does not produce sufficient serotonin, which is the chemical your body produces to allow you to feel happiness. Hormones are obviously just temporary fluctuations. When I get depressed, I literally cannot will myself to get out of the bed in the morning. I don't care about my appearance, my family, or my job. I am consumed with such sadness and pain that it hurts physically. It seems like the depression will never end.. I hope you don't have depression!

  12. a diagnosis by a physician -call for an appointment.

  13. hormones usually don't make u sad but horny or angry

  14. If you are a girl, you may see a pattern emerging: I tend to get worse in week 3 of the month. If it is a problem see your doctor. There are milder forms of depression out there.

  15. hey, elliot. first I would like to tell you to go to any search engine and type in "depression" to see how many of the symptons you have. second I would tell you to have a serious talk with your parents, and third I would ask  your parents to make you an appointment with your family physician to discuss your concerns and symptons. There are a number of wonderful medications that can help you combat the depressive state and get you on the right track to healthy recovery. :-) I hope that it all works out for you and that you receive the help and support for your family.

  17. whacked out hormones don't cause depression for an extended length of time. medical depression lasts until it is treated with the proper medication- if it is hormones, it will fix on its own. so if you aren't getting any better, i guess you know its a medical issue and you need to get your doctors help.

  18. speaking from expierence... depression is the lowest, darkest, most alone feeling you can ever go through and im really sorry u feel that way, the way u should be able to tell the difference is think of something that definetly always gives u joy and/or literally do something that u know will make u happy. then if your able to still enjoy that specific thing then i wouldn't be to worried at this time...it could just be a low in your life that will gradually even itself out, now if you try to do what makes u happy and several other things that you know makes you happy and are still depressed, than thats more along the lines of clinical deppression.PLEASE REMEMBER IM NOT A DOCTOR AND DEFINETLY SEEK HELP IF YOU HAVE THOUGHTS OF HARMING YOURSELF IN ANYWAY.
