  1. size. a small swirling cloud of dust low on the ground is a dust devil(you don't see a cloud in the sky funneling down just swirling dust)

  2. Dust devils are much, much smaller than tornadoes. You can see them flare up in the corners of dusty fields. 'Tornadoes are of a much greater magnitude, much more deadly.

  3. Dust Devils: They are basically way smaller than tornadoes. Plus, they really don't cause any damage, except swirl dust around. They are common during the spring and summer due to warm winds that pick up loose dust or dirt, sometimes on fields or just in dry areas where there is a lot of loose stuff on the ground.

Tornadoes: Way different. They might look the same to dust devils sometimes, but when it comes to damage, they prove it. Tornadoes can have winds of more than 300mph, in which just a 15 mph breeze can make a dust devil. Tornadoes develop from super cells, which is a fancy weather term for a severe thunderstorm with rotating winds, which are very common to parts of the midwest, like the plains.

    Hope this helps.

  4. A dust devil is caused by minor atmospheric disturbances low to the ground. Tornados have their origins up in the clouds.
