What's the difference between dvd-r, dvd-rw, dvd r, and dvd rw?

  1. All are blank media, however dvd rw discs can be erased and used again. r discs are use once only


  2. DVD+ ("plus") and DVD- ("minus") were originally separate formats requiring different writers, but nowadays all blank discs are interchangeable between all writers, so it's not a difference you need to worry about unless you're using outdated equipment.

    "R" discs are write-once (you can record on them once, and that's it), whereas "RW" are write-many (you can erase the discs and record on them as many times as you like).
