  1. The main differences between hardcourt surface and carpet are the following:

    * Hardcourt can be used indoors and outdoors;

    * Carpet can only be used indoors;

    * You need special flat soled shoes to play on carpet;

    Most importantly: there is a (large) difference in SPEED.

    Hardcourt is usually a rather fast surface, but carpet is really very fast, because the ball doesn't actually bounce, it rather "skids through" in stead of bouncing. So on carpet, more aces are produced. Faster surfaces favor the bigger serves, slower surfaces have longer rallies.

    About the speed of surfaces in general, this is the order, from slow to fast:

    * gravel (eg Roland Garros)

    * summer clay (also called French gravel, a new surface with clay on a type of rug);

    * concrete;

    * hardcourt (some are slower or faster than others) (e.g. US Open, Australian Open)

    * Grass (eg Wimbledon)

    * Carpet

    Kind regards,

    Thomas

  2. same?

  3. when you hit your head on the court and it (head not the court)would crack, then that's a hardcourt... and when you walk on the court bare foot and you seem to be wearing socks, then, that's carpet...
