  1. I've gone to stores to look at tv's. I see no difference in picture quality from analog, digital, hd, tivo, whatever. I think it is all a scam. The so-called HD-tv is a gimmick I think. That's why I laugh when radio stations claim to be broadcasting in "HD" stereo. There really is only mono, stereo, or quadrophonic. HD is a gimmick in radio and tv, if you ask me. I hear and SEE no difference from a $150 tv set to a $3000 plasma set. All this is is a large computer screen, I think. The quality is not that much better that a regular picture. Of tv sets I liked the clearness of the picture. Polaroid looked to be the clearest, with the most vivid colors. But, do we hear it advertized? No. Don't waste your money on anything so-called HD.

  2. no. all of the channels will be in digital, and then can be changed to HD if you have an HD tv and HD converter box

  3. No broadcasts will not be automatically in HD, they will however be all digital.

    Whether it's 480i, 720p or 1080i, it'll all be digital.

  4. In feb 2009, analog signals are switching to DIGITAL, NOT HD. While High Definition signals ARE DIGITAL, not all digital signals are High Definition. If you want to get HD, you will still need an HDTV and HD service from either a cable or satellite provider. (You can get your local channels in HD OTA, or over the air, if your local channels broadcast in HD for free with an antenna)

@ Wallaroo W: If you can't see the difference between an HDTV and a regular Tube tv, you either need to get your eyes checked, or you're looking at tvs that are not setup properly. There is a huge difference, not only in clarity, but colors and brightness. HD is NOT A GIMMICK. You get so many more advantages with it than standard definition. Please do not spread things if you do not know what you're talking about. IN fact, Polaroid actually is a very LOW END BRAND which picture quality does not even compare to better known brands like Sony, Sharp and Samsung. Please don't misinform people and do your research before you post answers. (vent over)
