I have a Sansa Sandisk Fuze and I've been trying to sync video files onto it, but it never worked. I checked the box and it said it only accepted MPEG-4 formats for the movies. I thought that maybe it was the same as mp4 since jpg and jpeg are the same, but that didn't work either, so I was wondering what the difference between the two are and how I could convert mpg./etc. movie files into MPEG-4 files.

  1. MP4 is the abbreviation for MPEG4. A *.mpg or *.mpeg file is a previous version of the MPEG codec, and will not work in players only supporting MP4. All typical MPEG-4 files will end in the extension ".mp4", whether they are audio or video. Videora is a great conversion tool. It is designed for ipods, but can be used for many types of conversions. When you convert your video files, make sure to select mp4 as the output format, and put in 224x176 for the output resolution.

  2. mpeg4 is just like the universally excepted video format for portable devices. there are many free converters that can do that for you. just search mpeg4 converters or check out www.download.com for them.

  3. As far as I know there is no difference. MP4 is just a short term for MPEG-4. Try downloading some mp4 videos at http://www.mp4point.com/ and see if it works on your mp4 player.

    Hope that helps.
