Question:

What's the difference between neural crest cells and neuroepithelial cells?

They both are the precursors of all the neuron and glia cells and they both are along the neural plate/tube and they migrate into different regions to form specialized tissue. So I don't know if they are different names for the same type of cell or if they are actually different

  1. Neural crest and neural tube comprise the neuroectoderm (neuroepithelium).  Neural crest and neural tube give rise to different structures.  The neural crest derived structures arise by cell migration.

  2. Hope this helps

    • Neural groove closes and crest cells are displaced and migrate to many regions of body

    o Crest cells develop into:

    𐂃 Sympathetic and parasympathetic ganglia

    𐂃 Adrenal medulla

    𐂃 Dorsal root ganglia

    • Neural tube is result of closed neural groove – center is called central canal

    o Made of neuroepithelial cells
