  1. Oversteer: you turn the wheel a little, the car turns a LOT (usually, the tail lose traction and swings wide)

Understeer: you turn the wheel a lot, the car turns just a little (usually, you took a corner too fast)

Neither is good for your car's performance. The perfect car NEITHER understeers nor oversteers.

For "normal" (novice) drivers understeer is easier to control since you just need to slow down.

Some performance drivers, esp. rally drivers prefer to "oversteer" as powersliding around corners is a little faster than normal cornering, esp. in a 4WD car. However, that's driving on a knife's edge, and not all can do that every day every time.

  2. You don't want to do either unless you want to go off the road. Understeer is when you attempt to negotiate a turn and you don't turn enough and over steer is when you turn too much and cut a corner/ run into the other lane.

  3. over steer is when you turn your wheel a bit but the car turns alot under steer is the opposite you have to move the wheel a long way to get a little steering

  4. If you cant get to neutral steering, pick oversteer and don't turn as hard.Understeer means you are not turning enough,so you cant get out of the way, oversteer is turning too much so you can turn less.     A race commentator said it was the difference of which way you were facing when you hit the wall. Go to an alignment shop and get neutral.

  5. Oversteer is when you hit the fence with the back of your car.

Understeer is when you hit the fence with the front of your car.

Horsepower is how fast you hit the fence

Torque is how far you take the fence with you

  6. Oversteer means your rear tires don't track the front tires, sliding out causing the car to steer tighter than intended. Oversteer is worse in rear-wheel drive cars and can cause a spin.

Understeer means the front tires don't turn as tight as intended, possibly skidding, causing a broad turn.

Neither is a performance issue unless you are racing, on a curved track that requires lots of critical turns.
