  1. These are two different things.  One describes the video, the other describes the tool you use to watch the video.

HDTV refers to the pictures themselves.  HD (High Definition) pictures are wide screen and have a high resolution (look very crisp).  In the US, HD is also part of a larger Digital TV (DTV) system.

Plasma is a way of making the video display.  They used to use picture tubes.  Now manufactures use Plasma, LCD, DLP and OLED to name a few.

I hope this helps. Please return and select a Best Answer from all of those submitted.

  2. Not all plasma sets were HDTV sets.  The newer models may be all HDTV sets.  Not all HDTV sets are plasma sets.

HDTV is any TV capable of at least 720 by 1280 resolution.  Better HDTV sets are capable of 1080 by 1920 resolution.  That is the difference between the 720p and the 1080i or 1080p sets.

Plasma is any display using the high contrast gas under pressure display technology.  LCD is Liquid Crystal Display and is approaching Plasma like quality.  There are other technologies out there which are capable of HDTV pictures but you did not ask about that yet so this is probably enough of an answer for now.

  3. HDTV  is the acronym for High Definition Television .  Or if you like "Getting closer to looking like Real Life Imaging".

Plasma describes the type of technology used to display pictures on only one type of the big screen TV's now available. LCD or Liquid Crystal Display is another type of display screen. LCD technology began with the little digital display wrist watches, calculators and hand held game displays. Now it has progressed into a technology which competes with Plasma(Ionised gas display technology) which initially monopolised large screen TV displays.  52 inch Plasma is now competing with up to 50inch LCD.

Your old style TV used CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) technology as did, and does, Radar Screens. Compared to size for size LCD screens, CRT is physically heavy, bulky, made of Glass and is Power Hungry. Also complex circuitry is required not only to cause images to to appear on the screen but also to control shape and precise colour information positioning.

That's a bit about the differences, but as far as image superiority goes, that is probably much more about the uniquenesses of each of us as far as how we actually see what is in front of us on a screen.

  4. Do you mean Plasma and LCD? They are both HDTVs. The LCD is better.

  5. Plasmas Are HD(High Definition) as well as LCDs(Liquid Crystal Diod)

But the difference is in the life time and technology.

It was approved by LCD and Plasma producers, that plasma has got a short lifetime. And that's why you see Sony is not producing plasmas anymore, and says "We Stand For LCD"

In the fact LCDs have got longer lifetime, better picture quality and better Color management.

Anyway I'm not going to get into too much details, But here are some URLs of Wiki to find out more about it by yourself.
