I hear both monetary terms frequently. Are they both words for the same thing? Thanks.

  1. A quid is just slang for a pound . They are the same .

  2. Yeah like everyone says its the same. In N.ireland we say a 'quid' but my English husband says a 'nicker'. My nan from Belfast called it a Goldie and gave me one everytime I visited bless her!

  3. yes they are the same thing, Pound Sterling, or just pound is the official name, but a quid is slang for a Pound

the same as in the U.S with a Dollar and a Buck

  4. No difference at all, as has been pointed out.  Quid is slang, but would be recognised by almost all Brits as meaning a pound.

  5. We use quid a lot because we still use lb to measure weight so it gets confusing. Saying "I want a pound of sweets" is confusing because do you mean the weight or a £1 worth of them.

Thats why we use quid as a slang

  6. yes they are the same
