What's the difference between "face value" and "denomination"?

For example

- a bond has a face value of $100,

- a bond can be purchased only in specific denominations. the most commonly used denominations are $1000.

whats the difference between these two sentences?

    For example, the denominations of US paper money are $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100.

    The face value is the amount of listed on one particular item.

    For example, the face value of this bond is $250 however was purchased for $125.
