When people say you should be thick skinned, and not be bothered by things people say, isn't it essentially being shameless and confident?

  1. To be thick-skinned means having the ability to withstand criticism.

To be shameless implies unapologetic bad behavior, usually lacking in dignity and self-respect.

I suppose you could be thick-skinned AND shameless.

  2. Thick skinned means to not easily offended.

Shamelessness means feeling no shame and implies a lack of modesty, sense of decency, or regard for others' rights or feelings; impervious to disgrace.

If a person was confident, they would have a "thicker skin".  A confident person in my opinion, would still have regard for others rights or feelings.
