  1. A Thoroughbred has to have a certain proportion (a very large proportion) of his or her lines trace back entirely to Horses in the General Stud Book.

  2. They  also  have  races  for  Standard breds,  Arabian  and  Quarter  horse    A  QH  was  bred  to do the best  in 1/4th mile

Sometimes  a County  fair  will have  open  classes

  3. All modern Thoroughbreds carry the genetics of three stallions imported to England from the Middle East in the late 17th and early 18th centuries: the Darley Arabian, to whom 95% of today's Thoroughbred pedigrees trace, the Godolphin Arabian, also known as the Godolphin Barb (Because this horse was born in Morocco, there is some dispute among historians whether this horse was a true Arabian or a Barb. However, based on paintings from life, the stallion was clearly Arabian in type, a Barb is built differently), and the Byerly Turk (who may have been a Turkoman Horse rather than an Arabian), together with around 35 mares. There are also other horses of oriental breeding that have been less of an influence but are still noteworthy. These include the Unknown Arabian, the Helmsley Turk, the Lister Turk and Darcy's Chestnut.

Only thoroughbreds can run in thoroughbred races.

!! Oh hi w_c_b! I didn't realize it was you.

  4. I don't think you'd want to see a Clydesdale run a race.

  5. A thoroughbred is just another breed of regular horses.  All breeds are different.  Thoroughbreds are used more for racing because they have larger heart and lung capacity than other breeds.  There are also races for Quarter Horses, and in the Middle East they tend to use Arabians in their races.

  6. TBs are just a different breed they are more popular to race because as a breed they are faster and lighter than others, however Quarter horses and Arabians also race, they are just less televised. Many other breeds do Endurance racing and Jumping. Qh's run shorter distances, TBs are in the middle, and Arabs can run for a very long time.

  7. Throughbred's are genetically bred to be tall, long, and lean. They have thinned bones then most horsed because they need to be light to move quicker. Throughbred's also have to jump to a gallop quickly which is something normal horses cannot really do.
