  1. Its the difference between the majority of voters in the constituency, if at the last election the MP had a Large majority and won the seat hands down that is considered a safe seat.

if there was not a lot of difference between the winners number of votes and the second place then that is a Marginal.

Its the marginal seats that parties concentrate on during an Election campaign because there is more chance of changing the MP than one where the winner is not in a lot of doubt

  2. safe is that which holds them marginal is the opposite -shaky!

  3. traditionally a safe seat is one that has such a large proportion of voters that will only vote for one party whatever the circumstances; out numbering all other contenders added together, a marginal is one where ther is no one clear contender and a few votes ether way would change the outcome

  4. my god just when you think the questions cant get any sillier, no wonder the politicians in this country are so happy their dealing with complete idiots

  5. Marginal seat...means that the there is no big preference for any of the big parties....Safe seat is the oppoasite of this.

  6. A safe seat is one that has so many of the party-in-question's supporters in it that it is unlikely to lose. A marginal is not dominated by the committed supporters of any party, so can be easily taken or lost.

  7. You might want to learn about correct use of apostrophes as well. (They're those little wiggly things that you've put in "seat's" for some reason.)

  8. Safe seat the party that calls it safe has so many more votes than any other that it would take an unbelievable change of vote to lose.

Marginal seat no party has a massive lead.

  9. If you are referring to elections for congress safe seats are those where the incumbent has almost no chance of losing.  Marginal seats are ones where the incumbent has only a slightly better chance of getting reelected than someone from a different party has of defeating the incumbent.

Political parties and interest groups are likely to spend most of their time and money trying to help incumbents or challengers win the marginal seats.  Those seats are also the ones independents or third party candidates have the best chance to win.

  10. It depends on the number of votes the winning candidate won by.

For example, if MP X had a winning margin of 25,000 that would be considered a very safe seat.

If MP Y had a margin of 25 that would be a very marginal seat.
