I'm looking for a place to keep my personal belongings for a while in the Colorado area and also some stuff from the office.

I found a website ( http://www.boulderselfstore.com ) but I don't get difference between Self and Storage?

Is it the same or "Self" refers to personal storage and not to commercial storage?

  1. Self-storage means you move all the stuff in and out of an area allotted to just you.  Storage usually means that a crew moves the stuff in and out of a storage area totally under their control.

  2. Self storage means that you are the only person with access to your storage space because you put your own lock on it and keep the key.  A place that is NOT self storage would be somewhere that once you move all the stuff in you don't have access to it without asking the people that work there to open it up for you.

Most places are self storage, including the one you mentioned in your question.
