  1. Sociology is the study of the processes underlying behaviour in a society, focusing on devising a way of thinking and observing society so that we may understand further the processes involved.  Sociology also has the intent of picking thems or generalizations from studies so that a broader picture may be painted of the world we live in.

Anthropology is more focused with the study of interaction of groups.  One main difference is in the methodologies used, anthropology almost exclusively uses participant observation (for a good example see Malinowski and his Trobriand islands study) in developing ethnographies (using fieldwork to provide a descrition of societies).

Following on from this, anthropology states that the only way to collect evidence about a culture/group/tribe etc is to study it on the ground level, through field work, interaction and observation.

Generally, sociology likes to generalise in its data findings.  Anthropology prefers small scale (often non generalizable findings) research for an indepth, relevant study of small gropus/cultures.

  2. Sociology is the study of how people interact, anthropology is the study of people and cultures throughout the ages; it's a bit more biology-based than sociology.
