  1. What you are calling ordinary earphones are monophonic, meaning both ears hear the same sound.  Stereo earphones are designed for stereo music, meaning the left hear hears the left channel and the right ear hears the right channel of the stereo music.

Monophonic earphones are used for dictating machines, two way radio, cell phones etc.  Stereo earphones are made for listening to music.

  2. when you say ordinary? are you meaning like monophonic? well, there's a BIG difference. Stereo earphones are earphones that play the right channel and left channel sounds at the same time through different earphones, so what this does is create a kind of i guess more "LIVELY" feel to your music. Stereo earphones create sort of like a 3D or Live feel to the music, for example, if you were to sit infront of the band that was playing, and the piano was to your right, then since the sound was coming from your right, stereo earphones will play the sound louder from the right earphone than the left or just plainly play it in the right. Monophonic earphones will play it at equal volumes from both earphones, so you don't get the 3D of Live feel ever from monophonic earphones. Monophonic earphones play the same sound through both earphones, so you don't get the depth and feel that's actually in your music.

    Hope this has helped.
