I've seen golf tournaments that are Men's Amateur and Men's Mid-Amateur. What's the difference?

  1. It's very simple. To play in the Mid-Amateur, you must be at least 25 years old.

The idea is that amateurs good enough to turn pro would have already done so by the age of 25. The Mid-Amateur is designed for the career amateur golfer.

ADDED - 1/11, 10:03pm ... Just wanted to clarify that the Amateur is a completely different event than the Mid-Amateur. Different course, different time, etc. And mid-ams are allowed to compete at both.

  2. In the UK the mid-amateur is for over 35s and mens amateur for anyone whos got a low enough handicap

  3. The Men's amateur tournament is open to any person of any age who qualifies as one of the lowest 144 playerswho will then go on to the match play format. The mid-Amateur is confined to those who are  25 years and older and takes the lowest 144 players who qualify who will then go on to the match play format.
