What's the difference between the shiny and the dull sides of aluminium foil?

There seems to be no qualitative difference, except perhaps in their reflective abilities.  One side is shinier than the other merely because of the manufacturing process.  Here's an earlier question from right here at Yahoo! Answers which addresses the matter:

your supposed to cook with the shiney side towards your food. I dont know if this is fact but I've heard it refferenced on the food channel several times.

its bc there are 2 layers of foil

absolutely no difference. the shiny side/dull side results from the mfg process, but has no effect on the quality of the foil or what it does.

If you wrap a gift with it, it looks so much classier with the shiny side out!
