  1. Index has a lot more information like what is on every page and its usually on the back of the book and the table of contents just name chapters and usually is in the front.

I am going on a Yahoo Answers expidition, I am trying to answer at least 5 questions from every single category.

  2. The table of contents gives you a list of chapters, main subject headings and is always at the beginning of a book. An Index is at the end of a book and is a very detailed list of words or theories that can be found on specific pages throughout the book.

    Example:

A Table of Contents might list:

    Chapter One- The Beginning

    Chapter Two- etc...

The index will list specific words and any pages within the book that reference it like:

    Apple- found on page(s) 1, 15, 30

    Illness -found on page(s) 22, 34, 65
