I know what the acronyms are (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). But really, what is the difference between the three? It's tough to tell from the websites what exactly their goals are regarding animals and how they aim to achieve them.

guest 8904, you are almost entirely mistaken about the humane society's mission. while it is true that they are an animal rights organization, they are most decidedly not an anti-pet organization. they are an anti-puppy mill organization, and in that case they are inclined to discourage consumers from patronizing chain pet stores (which might be the source of your confusion); but their aim is to inform consumers as to the ethically and ecologically irresonsible practices that go into puppy farming and into exotic reptile capture.
while you provide quotes from the peta website, you make some very broad brushstrokes about the hsus without providing any evidence or material to support your claim. i would be interested to find out how you can be so sure that none of the "higher ups" at the humane society have any pets. as a matter of fact, i am a member of the hsus, have three cats and a newt, and for all you know i could be my local branch's staff manager.
to clarify: the hsus is not nearly the same organization as peta. and please, if you are going to parade your opinions around as facts, at least try to form valid arguments with them instead of abusing everyone else with your ignorant sophistry. thank you.
