  1. The HTR6080 is a considerably older receiver.  The receiver itself went out of stock about a year and a half ago.  It does take the video signal and upscale it to H.D.M.I., but it does not have the ability to upscale to 1080p.  Also, it doesn't have the ability to do DolbyTrueH.D. or D.T.S.H.D.  At the time of its release, it was one of the top receivers out there from an entry level home theater standpoint, but time has passed it by.

The RX-V661 is a newer piece.  It does not have the upscaling ability at all.  It also does not have the DolbyTrueH.D. or the D.T.S.H.D.  It's not along the same lines as what the HTR6080 was, it is more like two models down.  The equivalent to the HTR6080 would be the RX-V1800 which is the newest one out there and is their third highest end receiver.  It has an M.S.R.P. of $1199.00, though the Denon AVR-2808 is a considerably better buy at that price.

  2. I was looking at yamaha but I ended up with an onkyo.  It blew the yamahas away.

  3. Power.

    90W  versus 120W

  4. Ah, I see. My last answer was probably confusing because your looking at these two models and thinking the HTR must be higher quality given the price is much higher. Well, the difference between these two is that the HTR has video upscaling. It can take a 480 I/P signal and change it to 720p or 1080I. If you have an hdtv cable box, you won't need this upscaling for tv. For DVD, there are a lot of upscaling dvd players and you'll probably be switching to blu-ray soon enough anyway. The HTR-6080 is more comparable to the RX-V2700 ($1600).

You didn't give too much info but my guess is you won't need the upscaling and should go with the RXV-661. You may want to check out the HTR-6150 and HTR-6060 which are more of apples to apples with the RXV-661
