  1. Lightning is a brilliant electric spark discharge in the atmosphere, occurring within a thundercloud, between clouds, or between a cloud and the ground

    Thunder is a loud, explosive, resounding noise produced by the explosive expansion of air heated by a lightning discharge.

    Lightning is electrical charges that build up inside of clouds

    Lightning bolts are really hot -- over 30,000 degrees fahrenheit on average. When they strike, they heat up the air around them, instantly expanding it -- and that sends out the explosion that you hear. Welcome to Thunder.
