  1. On my browser, the difference is 2 question marks.

  2. Well, when your talking about your own, you usually don't say san for one. I call my grandmother obaachan.

Looking at the kanji, my mom said the first one can be "old hag" and bad-sounding. However, it can be used as "grandma" referring to "oh, look at that grandma."

Second one, is also obaachan, and my mom said it's used more for "my grandma" type.  So, if you are writing a letter and have a picture, you can use that to say, "this is my grandma."

When I want to type in japanese, i see six various ways to write it.  I hardly write in Japanese, but I'm never going to pay attention to the kanji I use, but I am sure the point will be give across.

  3. If you want to say "my grandmother" you should say sobo.  Adding the o- to the front and the -san to the end makes it honorific, and should only be used when talking about someone else's grandmother or to your grandmother, or possibly to other members of your family (that's a grey area for me still).

I don't know what the other one reads.  My kanji knowledge isn't that good.

  4. お婆さん means an old lady, not using for your relatives.

For example, "近所のお婆さん kinnjo no obaasan" is an old lady of the neighborhood.

    お祖母さん means a grandmother.

So, if you want to say "my grandmother", you can say "私のお祖母さん watashi no obaasan"

Both words are pronounced same, but have different meaning.
