  1. Culture:

Greece has longest history and brightest culture as well

Turkey's modern history is interesting ,too

Greece has more history and monuments as you already mentioned

    Price:

    Turkey is cheaper than Greece

    Hospitality:

Both countries are well known for that

    Safety:

Greece is little bit safer, but according to other EU countries,Turkey is safer.

    beaches:

They share the same sea (in Aegean) but Greece has lots of Islands and Ionan sea as well, which has more exotic places from Aegean

    edit:

    you are right Maurice

Lady S,I hope you don't mean Trotsky because she is not the one who "likes" Greece at all.

edit :Lady S,i know that in general Turks are not as fanatic as some users here,I have many Turkish friends, not e-friends but real.:)

Turks in general are warm people (I have already wrote it) ,just some users here is exactly the opossite;P

  2. Both countries are beautiful and have some similarities, but as for the people, I thought Turks were more friendly. By the way, I really don't understand why most people give thumbs down to those who say they like Turkey more than Greece. Everyone has the right to their own opinion. I'm not saying that I like Turkey more than Greece, but Turks are friendlier to me than Greeks. And before the rest of the answerers decide to treat me with some thumbs down, let me explain the facts.

See, I have a lot of experience with both Greeks and Turks, and I have also done some comparisons how they treat each other and/or foreigners. Here are a few good examples that show their attitude towards different cultures, religions etc.

As I said before, I'm from Bosnia & Herzegovina, and I'm Muslim. Many years ago, when my brother decided to marry a Greek girl, her parents had so many problems with the fact that we are Muslim, that they stopped talking to their daughter. They didn't even want to give us a chance (even though we are not religious at all). Then, years later, the war came and while Serbs were killing Bosnian Muslims, Greeks were supporting them and helping them wholeheartedly. Today, when I talk to Greeks and tell them I'm Muslim, many of them don't have such a good reaction.

Now let's see Turks, on the other hand. I have been to Turkey and also met some Turks here in my country. They are not only friendly to me, but also, when I tell them that my niece is half Greek, they are especially friendly to her. I have heard Greeks talk bad about Turks much more often than Turks talk bad about Greeks. Also, Turks don't discriminate people by their religion; they are equally nice to Bosnian Muslims and to Serbs, for example. I can't say that about Greeks (exceptions excluded, as always).

No offence everyone; these are just my true observations.

EDIT: I know the question wasn't about that and I'm sorry, but I had to tell my personal experiences. I remember in some other question, someone said that Greeks are brainwashed into Orthodox Christianity ever since the early childhood and they are not even given the chance to learn about other religions; I guess that's why they tend to be less tolerant to different religions. On the other hands, Turks were taught not to be religious, so they are much more tolerant to different religions as well. But don't get me wrong, I love Greece as the country - great landscape, ancient monuments, great food and the best music I have ever heard... LOL. I just had to share this observation, because I personally know them well.

TO VASILIKI: I didn't mean Trotsky or anyone from Yahoo Answers, I meant ordinary Turkish people that I have met in person. In general, they are more friendly to Greeks than most Greeks are to them. As I said before, my niece lost her parents in a car accident when she was a baby and I have been taking care of her like she was my own child; she is my everything and I would get really angry if someone, a Turk or anyone else, was unfriendly to her because she's Greek. Trust me that I'm being completely objective about this.

P.S. I have to admit that some Turkish users of Yahoo Answers tend to be kinda fanatic (sorry to say that), but I assure you that most Turks I met in person were not that way. But there is this one thing that Greeks and Turks sure have in common: When someone says something to criticise them or their country, no matter how true it is, they get mad... LOL :) They both should learn how to take criticism better.

  3. I think Greece is more tolerant when it comes to silly things :-P

  4. Zoltan, why people in your country just can't admit you love us ?

  5. There are differences concerning the services and the prices, mentality and security...

The coast of Tureky is very beautiful but i have to admit that Greece has much more archologic places, and certainly it is more secure, since we dont have internal political problems which cause many times problems to the tourism....

  6. Turkey is called the cradle of civilization as it has been home to a rich variety of tribes and nations of people since 6500 B.C.  Ancient sites and ruins throughout the country attest to each civilization's unique character. If you are interested in exotic history and astonishing scenery, then go to Turkey.

Turkish hospitality is worldwide known. If you visit Turkey, you will be welcomed by the warmth of Turkish hospitality.

Greece is not safer than Turkey, who did not hear of the two horrible murders in Santorini and Mykonos? Both countries offer the same safety standards while Turkey is much more cheaper.

  7. I agree with Vasiliki.

But I would just add that the culture sites and monuments are all unique in each country, so a tourist must see both countries.

And also, I think someone must discover and enjoy both greek traditions and turkish traditions (even if these countries have some similarities), because they are also very different and interesting.
