  1. Welcome to the group Denie.  You sure are making up for lost time.

Paranormal is a term used to describe phenomena claimed to be true but which lack evidence and are thus far unproved.

Parapsychology is the study of paranormal phenomena concerning humans.

  2. the suffix OLOGY means the study of.....parapsychology is thus the study of the paranormal behavior    which by the way is getting more normal every day by new scientific findings

  3. Paranormal is defined as, any phenomenon that in one or more respects exceeds the limits of what is deemed physically possible according to current scientific assumptions.

Parapsychology is the the study of paranormal.  Parapsychology is a fringe science because it involves research that does not fit within standard theoretical models accepted by mainstream science.

  4. Rauls' answer is correct but incomplete.  The Parapsychological Association (link below) defines parapsychology as "Parapsychology is the scientific and scholarly study of certain unusual events associated with human experience."

Originally J.B. Rhine had intended to bring parapsychology into a laboratory setting and apply only to Extra Sensory Perception (ESP) and Psychokinesis (PK). The study of hauntings, survival and other paranormal phenomena would continue to be pursued under the term psychical research.

However, as time passed the study of psychical events (paranormal) has become included within parapsychology.

The American Society for Psychical Research (ASPR) (link below) as you see kept the original name.

  5. Ok paranormal is when there are unexplained occurances and parapsychology is the science that study such occurances
