What's the difference in pool hall billiard balls and regular billiard balls?

Three sizes of balls. The largest are for Billiards, played on a table with no pockets and using only three balls. This is the old "gentleman's game." Points for number of caroms and ability to tap certain balls.

Pocket billiards. The middle size. 8-ball, rotation, pea-pool, nine-ball, are all forms of pocket billiards. Points generally made by sinking certain balls according to the type of game played.

Snooker. The smallest size. The table is larger and the pockets are smaller than on a pocket billiards table. See the rules of American or Canadian snooker for how to play.

A pool hall will choose the balls that are longest lasting and makes for the best customer experience. A family place may go for a smaller ball and larger pockets, a skill centered location will follow international rules. Home players often go for economy.

I'm not forsure but I'm assuming that it's the use of both balls when you buy new ones they don't have any use to them the others in pool halls have been used and I think that would make them better in useing english (or spin) on them.

iam not 100% sure but usually all billard balls are a common 2 and a quater in diameter, only snooker balls are smaller 2 inches to be exact , the reason i know this is because i have a pool table here at home with both snooker balls and standard issue , hope this helps

The balls are usually slightly smaller and the pockects on the table are slightly bigger than normal so the games go faster.
