  1. Litespan is fiberoptic cable to the main "underground" pole, then is connected to copper for the block terminal, and the drop wire going to your home, an illegal tap can be placed anywhere from the main underground pole upto your inside wiring...

Fiber to the curb - FTTC, is fiberoptic cable to the terminal that your drop wire is connected to, an illegal tap can be placed anywhere from the pole to your inside wiring...

Fiber to the home - FTTH, or as verizon calls is FiOS is fiberoptic straight to the NID outside your home... an illegal tap needs to be placed AT the NID or your inside wiring...

Someone who wants to tap your phone illegaly is most likely someone who has, or had access inside your home at one time or another (wife, girlfriend, husband, etc.) so most illegal taps will be located somewhere within the inside wiring, or at the NID, which does not make one soloution more secure then the next...

The most insecure telephone device on your phone line is most always a cheap cordless telephone...

I recommend using a DECT cordless phone, or corded phone for the best security...

do not forget that any touch tones that you press can easily be decoded... so if your line is being recorded, credit cards and bank account information can be determined...

get rid of all 900 Mhz cordless phones, or any cordless phones that have a channel button...

  2. analog can be tapped as easily as clipping on the phone pair.

fiber is a different story, it is not easily tapped, it requires specialized equipment and any intruption is service is noticed quickly.

analog can be monitored with an induction coil, get a coil CLOSE to the active line and you can hear the conversation, this is impossible with fiber optic because fiber is 100% digital.

  3. Nothing! They're just plumbing options.
