I've seen a Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie). And I've seen a Miniature Collie. They kind of look the same. I was wondering.........are they the same breed but just have two different names, or are they actually two different breeds.

So which is it,....is there a difference between a Sheltie and a Miniature Collie,........or not?

  1. since i never heard of a min collie, i would say it's a shetland.

  2. There is no such thing as a Miniature Collie, although many people call a Sheltie a Miniature Collie.  Just a simple mistake.

  3. same dog

  4. There is no such thing as a miniature Collie.  Some people think that a Sheltie is a mini Collie, but in truth there is no such breed.

Long haired Collies and Shelties really do look a lot alike, and both breeds were bred for herding.  To be honest, I can't tell you any real differences between the two (I havne't really looked into shelties).  Collies do come in two coat variaties, Smooth (short hair) and Rought (long haired) and are also bigger than Shelties (shelties only come in a rough variety).
