What's the different between Canadian accents and Amarican??

Hey I'm from KSA, i'm planning come to Canada to study ESL

but i'm still can't identify the difference between the two accents Canadaian and American

where is the much better place to take ESL course in Canada ?

Can I understad what the Americans says if I'd learn the English in Canada ?

Can i get some videos or sounds for Canadain speakers?

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Canada and i don't think about anywhere in the world to study except CANADA =)

  1. Canadian accents have a tinge of French mixed with English.  


  2. There is so little difference between a standard American accent and a Canadian one that English-speaking people from other countries  would be unlikely to tell the difference. There are extreme differences, such as the accent of Quebec or Newfoundland on the one hand and the "deep" South in the U.S.on the other; but these are exceptions to the rule.

    There is, even in the standard versions, a difference between Canadian and American inflections. Canadians tend to use "up-speak" which stresses the last syllable of a phrase.  Americans use "down-speak" which de-emphasizes the last syllable of a phrase even if the word itself is stressed.

    Americans pitch their voices farther back in the mouth than Canadians, and much farther back than the English.  They also make more of a meal of "r" sounds.

    I would recommend either Toronto or Vancouver for ESL since they host most of non-French-speaking immigrants to Canada.
