  2. Cyclone and hurricane describe the same large scale type of storm system; the labelling is dependant on local naming conventions. Cyclones last days, and are hundred of kilometer wide.

    A tornado is a much smaller, although very violent, phenomenon. It is usually a few tens of m wide at most (but it moves around), and last several minutes.
