  1. The difference between these devices is how they handle the packets of data travelling across them.  A hub is the most basic and does the least error-correction out of the lot.  A switch does very basic error correction and a router is the more complex of the lot.  Hubs are ok for very small networks which won't have a lot of traffic, because all packets are sent to all ports.  Switches improve on the speed by adding in some traffic control and sending packets only where they are meant to go.  Routers can be very advanced and do all sorts of things with the packets, and some even have their own programming language built in.


  2. I'll say this very simple:

    Switch: For corporate network. Split one cable into many

    Router: For home netwokr. Split the share of internet and connect all the computers in that network together.

    Hub: Connect all computers together.
